Now Gathering in Rome, a Conclave of Fallible Cardinals
The sudden resignation of the most senior Roman Catholic cardinal in Britain, who stepped aside on Monday in the face of accusations that he made unwanted sexual advances toward priests years ago, showed that the taint of scandal could force a cardinal from participating in the selection of a new pope. His exit came as at least a dozen other cardinals tarnished with accusations that they had failed to remove priests accused of sexually abusing minors were among those gathering in Rome to prepare for the conclave to select a successor to Pope Benedict XVI. Could not have said it better. No human being is infallible. I was always taught that the Holy Spirit chooses the next Pope……That is how it should be. The church however ignores the Holy Spirit and has become a corrupt political organization like any other corporation. Power is the purpose of the church who stifles the Holy Spirit. We are the church……the Holy Spirit is our guide, not the Pope or the Vatican. Pray, pray, pray for the Holy Spirit to lead the church. Pray that the Hierarchy teaches the power of the Holy Spirit and is able to let go and let God. Power corrupts. God bringing down the church because He is likely ashamed of what it has become…….a man made political institution and not “The Body of Christ.” Pray for the Pope, pray for the Cardinals and Bishops and pray for all priests as well as laity.

Can the VOTF, and other organizations dedicated to transparency, reform and real progress in the Church send representatives to the upcoming conclave in Rome? Surely it is recognized that there such deep-rooted corruption at the pinnacle of the Vatican, that a confidence vote would be lacking. Any attempt to promote the idea of the infallibility of the Pope is ludicrous now, but with all the good that is done by the Catholic Church in the world, and its immense continuing potential, it is past time to recognize women as equal leaders in the Church and get it back in balance.
